08-Dec-2009 December NewsletterThe end of
the year is in sight. It has been an incredibly busy year for us, with the
upgrades in the texts and the new website and Learning Management System. Also we
have had an enormous influx of students, despite all the messages of economic
gloom and doom. The desire to learn and become qualified is clearly there for
our industry. Another
very promising sign is that we are getting more and more students who finish
their qualification in a reasonable time span. Some very experienced people got
it in record time, but also people who had been in the system for a while got
stuck into it, and finished things off. Obviously breaking up the course into
Certificate III and IV has made it much more achievable to get through, plus a lot
of modifications we have made over the years as a result of student feedback
and our own observations have made the system more and more user-friendly. But often
the difference between people getting the qualification and the ones that are
getting stuck is the fact that the successful students are looking for
opportunities and solutions. Although the course is available as home study,
you will have to get out and find a way to get the practical done. Quite a few
graduates did not have an assessor in their immediate neighbourhood. Some had
the facilities at home, and could video their work. Others got involved with
the pony club where they found the opportunity to teach or formed study groups
with other students in their area and practised the tasks until they were ready
to be assessed. It is clear that distance education can make you feel a little
isolated, but if you really want it, with some initiative you can go out and
get it! New Assessor in Victoria: Tim Calkin
is now available as assessor for horseridingcoach.com He is based in
Healesville, 3777 Phone: 0419 599 661 email: peopleoutcomes@bigpond.com Tasmania visit Bert and Marion We are
planning to come to Tasmania for the Equus Expo in February 2010. As we have
been promising a visit for a long time we would like to combine this with some
assessments and a get together with our current assessors in the state. We
would welcome suggestions from the Tasmanians as what their biggest needs are,
and look forward to meeting a lot of people who are involved with our training
system. Wishing you
a great festive season and a successful 2010! Of course
we hope you all have a lovely Christmas break, and wish success and achievement
for the next year. Set your goals and go for it! All the
best, Bert,
Marion, Jenny, Rebecca and Trish. |
